Single shaft shredder is a machine that uses a rotating knife roller equipped with multiple moving knives to interact with fixed knives on a box to shear, tear and squeeze materials to reduce their size. It is one of the most common and widely used equipment in the field of industrial crushing.

Application

Plastics: Large plastic drums, machine head stock, pipes, profiles, fishing nets, strapping tape, waste tires (rubber blocks), etc.
Wood: Pallets, building formwork, tree roots, wood scraps, used furniture, etc.
Metal: Thin metal drums, scrap iron, electronic waste, aluminum profiles, etc. (high requirements for blade material).
Solid Waste Treatment: Bulk household waste, industrial waste, medical waste (requiring special safety design), paper mill waste, etc.
Other: Scrap cables, paper-plastic composites, used textile bags, etc.

Working Principle

1. Feeding: Material is fed into the shredder hopper through the feed system.
2. Grabbing and Tearing: The rotating blades on the rotating cutter drum grab the material and pull it into the gap between the cutter drum and the fixed blades.
3. Shearing: Driven by a powerful hydraulic or electric drive, the rotating and fixed blades create a continuous shearing action, cutting the material into smaller pieces.
4. Screening and Discharging: The shredded material falls under the action of gravity and is discharged through the screen at the bottom.

Main Components

1. Cutter Roller Assembly: This is the core component. It consists of a heavy-duty main shaft and multiple sets of rotating blades mounted on it. The blades are made of high-strength alloy steel and are heat-treatable and resharpenable.
2. Fixed Blades: These are mounted on the machine chassis and work with the rotating blades to form the shearing assembly. Each machine typically has one or two fixed blades.
3. Housing: This sturdy welded structure houses all working components and provides strong support.
4. Powertrain: Typically composed of a high-power motor and a heavy-duty reducer, these systems deliver low-speed, high-torque output, ensuring powerful shredding force.
5. Pusher: A hydraulically driven pusher plate continuously pushes the material toward the cutter rollers, ensuring uniform feeding.
6. Screen: Located at the bottom, it controls the output size.
7. Hydraulic System: Powers the pusher system and, in some designs, reverses rotation to clear jams or provide overload protection.
8. Electronic Control System: Controls the entire machine’s start, stop, reverse rotation, and overload protection.
